NHS holds virtual induction
The spring of 2020 through the spring of 2021 brought numerous challenges in creativity, flexibility, and resiliency to many. Looking back, the vast majority of Spencer students stepped up to the plate in a game with new rules and hit it out of the park. I was a bit surprised and also humbled to see an admirable level of tenacity and engagement by so many students dedicated to pursuing excellence in their learning; this in spite of hurdles not seen in over a hundred years.
This year the Spencer High School Chapter of the National Honor Society inducted members in a virtual ceremony, conducted largely by seven Spencer school staff who are former members of the S.H.S. N.H.S. The featured speakers were Ms. Brostowitz, Ms. Eckes, Ms. Fischer, Ms. Olson, Ms. Herman, Ms. Seefeldt, and Ms. K. Weier. The current Spencer High School students who were officially inducted as members of N.H.S. are Connor Clark, Haley Miller, Faith Miller, Haylee Hopperdietzel, Cameron Nieman, Aidan Griepentrog, Zalexis Mannigel, Delaney Wichlacz, David Ellefson, Alizabelle Carman, Ethan Hoff, Amber Becker, Ruby Semenchuk, Rebecca Mlsna, Madison Knecht, Jorie Meyer, Emily Wehrman, Leah Zastrow, Kaizer Eikleberry, and Chase Wirtz.
Students are selected for membership in the National Honor Society based on an application in which they are considered with regard to scholarship, character, service, and leadership. Selections are made by a Faculty Council consisting of five high school teachers who volunteer their service each year; many thanks to Mr. Oestreich, Mr. Wagner, Mr. Veale, Mr. Sprenger, and Ms. Olson. As we look forward to future challenges facing our world, there is much encouragement to be taken from seeing the high caliber of so many young Spencer ladies and gentlemen.
