‘crazy year’ for fourth-graders

The fourth grade is winding down from a busy but wonderful year. We survived! And this means SO much more than usual. What a crazy year it has been! However, there have been so many growths, great memories, and good times. We have learned to be thankful for so much in our lives.

Our fourth-graders have worked hard and shown great resilience this year with their learning and attitudes. We explored poetry, transformed squiggles into creative writing art masterpieces, explored new friendships through pen pals letters with students from Columbus and learned the importance of clear, directive writing when explaining how to make the perfect peanut butter sandwich. In math, we’ve evolved our mathematical thinking in a digital world and enjoyed putting our skills to the test with some digital escape room challenges. We’ve done a nice job of balancing hard work and fun, which helped us persevere and continue our learning no matter what was thrown at us. We are SO proud of the students’ growth shown on their MAP testing and efforts put forth on the Forward State Testing.

Our reading has taken us on so many adventures this school year as we’ve become “international travelers’’ and explored the world through reading and interactive activities. Students have rocked every AR Contest this year and had a blast celebrating their accomplishments by dressing up as reading rockstars, groovy hippies and pirates. They even made Mrs. Eckes walk the plank! (get buckets of water thrown at her) and get pied in the face due to their outstanding reading efforts!

On May 14, Wisconsin state representative Donna Rozar came to visit the fourth- and fifth-graders. Although this wasn’t the same as our traditional Madison Capitol field trip, which has been canceled the past two years, it was nice to be able to bring a little bit of the Capitol to our students. It is our district’s plan to send next year’s fourth-graders, as well as fifth- and sixth-graders to Madison next year! Please keep collecting aluminum cans to support this amazing learning experience of visiting our Madison State Capitol. Our can cage is located in the south teacher’s parking lot.

We started this journey as a team and are finishing the year even stronger than we could have imagined. They are ready to move on to fifth grade; well, AFTER a nice long summer break! Remember to use sunscreen, keep READING lots, as well as writing and studying those math facts all summer long! Thank you for a wonderful year! Have a safe and blessed summer!
