a wild journey in fifth grade
This school year has certainly been one like no other. Despite the challenges thrust upon us, we have had so much fun creating memories with our kids. We have endured sad times, celebrated joyous moments, challenged ourselves to show integrity, and had many laughs along the way, too.
We are so proud of our kids and how they handled learning during this global pandemic. They have tackled our learning targets using Canvas and that will certainly help them have a smooth transition to sixth grade and the middle school world. What we are most proud of is how they have shown perseverance and true grit with their learning in this bizarre situation.
Things have been very busy in our world. We have been focusing on many fifth-grade learning standards . In math class we studied geometry, coordinate planes, powers of ten and place value, and probability. Reading class brought the challenges of text structure and summarizing; we are also diving into Westward Expansion and Civil War themes within our reading. In language class, students learned all about grammar skills, informational writing, and fiction narrative writing. As you can see, we can’t “mask” our enthusiasm for learning and growing!
We look back upon this year with great fondness. We have had some great challenges, but we also have had some wonderful times together. It saddens us to think our kids didn’t get the chance to participate in the usual fifth-grade traditions. However, there is a hidden blessing in it all. It has made us all appreciate the value of human connections and our love for family. Our fifth-grade family made the best of it and came out on top. We made class T-shirts that show off our grade level pride. As Mr. Endreas always says: EVERY DAY IS A GREAT DAY TO BE A SPENCER ROCKET!!
