The Greenwood-Loyal softball team maintained its slim lead in the Eastern Cloverbelt Conference with a 15-0 rout of Spencer on May 21. The team found life outside the ECC is not as comffortable, as it dropped a home double-header to Blair-Taylor the following day.

The game against Spencer (played in Greenwood) was never really in doubt, as G-L scored three first-inning runs and then piled on 10 more in the second.

In the first inning, G-L got its first runs on a bases-loaded walk, and Mesa Rasmussen then sent two more runs home with a 2-out, 2-strike single off Rocket pitcher Madison Knecht.

After Aspen Hagen and Katlyn Lindner walked to start the second inning, Kim Bremmer laced a 2-strike single to the fence in centerfield for a pair of RBIs. Zaida Brock followed with another walk and Gracie North followed with a linedrive single to left-center to extend the lead to 6-0.

G-L picked up two more runs on a Spencer infield error and a bases-loaded walk to Hagen. Lindner followed with a first-pitch base hit to right-center for two more runs, and Bremmer slapped a firstpitch single through the middle of the infield for two more. Greenwood-Loyal collected seven hits and eight walks off Knecht. Only three of the 15 runs were earned as the Rocket defense committed seven errors. Lindner pitched two innings for G-L, allowing one hit. Emma Schlough and Morgan Raese each pitched an inning.

North went 3-4 and drove in four runs, Bremmer was 2-4 with three RBIs, and Lindner was 2-4 with a pair driven in.

Elexa Post had a single and double for Spencer. Cassidee Widmann and Kaelyn Schreiner had the only other Rocket hits.

The Wildcats scored five times in the first inning of their 8-2 win, and four G-L errors didn’t help. Schlough pitched that game, allowing three hits and nine walks with six strikeouts.

G-L managed only four hits in the game, two of them from Bremmer.

In the 12-4 loss, G-L produced seven hits, but couldn’t turn them into enough runs. Brock went 2-3 and drove in a run while Mckenna Schley and Rasmussen each had an RBI.

Lindner pitched and allowed 11 hits and two walks with four strikeouts. The G-L defense had another shaky game with six errors.

Greenwood-Loyal will play at second-place Neillsville on May 27 and then has a June 1 double-header at Abby-Colby.
