Granton Foundation plans ‘Sweet Treat’ event
The Granton Area School District Foundation Board is planning its annual Sweet Treat Social Event once again, after taking a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s event will be held on June 12, at the Granton Fire Station. The doors will open at 7 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres, and the live auction of sweet treat desserts will begin at 8 p.m..
Numerous teachers and staff from Granton Schools, as well as the Foundation Board members work hard to make special sweet treat items to be auctioned off to the highest bidders for this annual fundraising event. There is a Best of Show award presented to the top dessert of the evening, which is voted on by the guests prior to the auction. In addition, there are a few basket and raffle items available at the event, for those who are unable to purchase a sweet treat.
Tickets include various hearty hors d’oeuvres, served up through the auction. Some beverages are also included with the ticket, with the option to purchase additional drinks. The event tickets are currently available at Roger’s Grocery Store, Citizens State Bank in Granton and the Granton Area School District office. They may also be purchased from board members John Richmond, Omar Young, Courtney Schoessow, Mark Elmhorst or Cheryl Steinbach and social team member Karolyn Naedler. Presale tickets will close at noon on June 7. If at all possible, please purchase tickets in advance, as that helps with ordering food and being sure to have enough tables and chairs for everyone in attendance.
All proceeds from the Sweet Treat Social go to support the mission of the Foundation. The mission states: “The Granton Area School District Foundation, Inc. will facilitate and oversee philanthropic operations for the Granton Area School District, enhancing the school district’s ability to provide the community with the best possible educational services.”
Funds this year were used to purchase masks, mask lanyards and water bottles for all students and staff to help keep our school open and operating safely during the pandemic. The Foundation also supported numerous grants for the Granton School District throughout the years. Teachers are all given the opportunity to complete grant applications in the fall and spring, and the board selects recipients of the funds each year. There are also up to $3,000 in scholarships available to students each year at graduation. To date, more than $50,000 in grants, scholarships and program support have been distributed through the Foundation.
Please consider purchasing tickets and coming out for a night of fine food, socializing and bidding on these awesome treats so that we can continue to support more awesome school programs next year. The Foundation is still looking for sponsors of the event as well, and is always open to receiving donations. For more information, feel free to contact one of the Foundation board members.
