Rockets get first ECC softball win

Spencer notched a walk-off win against Owen-Withee on May 14 for its first Eastern Cloverbelt Conference win of the season. The Rockets scored single runs in five different innings, but still needed the final one in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a tie to get the 5-4 win.

Zalexis Mannigel and Madison Knecht combined on the pitching rubber to limit Owen-Withee to six hits and three walks. Mannigel threw the first two frames and allowed two runs on two hits and a walk with one strikeout. Knecht took over from there and allowed two runs (neither earned) on four hits, two walks and five strikeouts.

Cassidee Widmann had two hits to lead a Rocket offense that managed only six total bases and four walks. The Rockets struck out nine times and stranded seven runners on base.

Widmann drove in two Rocket runs, while Mannigel, Jaci Cook, Elexa Post and Knecht each had an RBI. Post stole three bases.
