Finishing strong in a challenging year

Finishing strong in a challenging year Finishing strong in a challenging year

With spring upon us and as we begin the fourth quarter of the school year, it has been an interesting year to say the least. With the challenge of the pandemic we all pulled together and have made the best out of the situation. I believe that being open the entire school year has been positive for our students not only academically but also socially and mentally.

Our year-to-date COVID updated statistics include 28 positive cases district-wide from Sept. 1 to April 16. This is up one from the February meeting. During that same time frame, a total of 332 have been quarantined and 14 of those have been quarantined since February. We are following the recommendation of the Clark County Health Department on requiring the face coverings throughout the district. This will once again be reviewed at the next board meeting on April 21.

We have recently discontinued conducting temperature checks of students, but the district still has staff members welcoming the students into the building. We do ask parents to continue keeping their children home if they are not feeling well. Also, remember that masks, physical distancing, and washing your hands are important all the time.

The facility upgrade meetings have continued. Miron and HSR Associates will be presenting to the district staff on May 7 and we will have a Community Information Meeting on May 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym. We are continuing to work on a survey that will be sent out to the community in the very near future. Our kindergarteners and firstgraders held the 50th Annual Easter Parade, which turned out to be a big success. Congratulations and thank you to the kindergarten and first-grade teachers and staff who helped put this together. The National Honor Society held its spring induction ceremony on April 12. Congratulations to Halle Aumann, Maci Bogdonovich, Aspen Hagen, Anna Lindner and Leah Scherer for being selected to the National Honor Society at this event. As our spring sports get underway and we close in on the end of the school year, we are excited to continue to slowly open-up with more activities, with some field trips, band and chorus pop concerts, FFA banquet, prom, senior banquet and graduation. I am excited to see what the last seven weeks are going to bring with these events.

I believe that we can have a great finish to a good, but challenging, school year by working together and following the procedures that are set in place by the School Board and administration. I am very thankful for all the administration, staff, students, parents, and community have done together to keep our doors open for in-person learning for our children. I receive many comments from community members who are so appreciative of what we have done this school year.
