Fourth grade news
We are having a fantastic year together! The students are working hard and are making great progress. We want to thank all the parents for their help and support in making this possible during a difficult pandemic year.
In math, the students continue to work hard on different math strategies in the digital math program, HMH Ed: Your Friend in Learning. Our focus has been on multi-digit multiplication and division which will lead us into our work on measurement and fractions. With all of the challenges this year has presented, our fourth-graders have approached problems (math and non-math alike) with determination and perseverance to find a solution.
Our reading has taken us on lots of adventures so far this year. We have begun exploring various locations within the United States as well as traveling internationally through our reading travel unit. Students have been eager to complete lesson activities to receive stamps in their passports of all the amazing places we’ve traveled to around the globe! Although we all agree it would be fascinating to take field trips to these amazing destinations, we are enjoying the places come alive through our reading of nonfiction passages and utilizing interactive websites and videos. We are excited to see where our reading takes us next!
Student writing has improved greatly so far this year. We’ve been so impressed to read the longer and more detailed things students are writing. Ask them to tell you about their writing or even show you!
We have started our lumberjack unit, which culminates with our annual lumberjack breakfast. The students will dress like lumberjacks and bring in their handmade tools. When we have completed the lumberjack unit, we will need to get busy learning about how our government works.
