Library offers ‘Colossal Fossils’ sessions

Local kids and their parents can join the Marathon County Public Library and Colossal Fossils for 16 weeks of natural history presentations that will teach, captivate, and inspire them. These online sessions, dubbed “MCPL & Colossal Fossils Present…,” begin on Sept. 8 from 4-5 p.m. All sessions will be conducted via the Zoom app.

Parents can sign their kids up to virtually attend any, or all, of the 16 sessions that will be offered. Sessions will cover such topics as dinosaurs, the Ice Age, and ancient music, as well as women in science, primitive fishing, and practical skills like fire building and rope-making. A different subject will be covered each week, and all classes are free. Virtual attendees will also be able to ask questions at the end of each session.

The list of upcoming dates, and subjects that will be covered, are as follows: Sept 8 - Predators & Prey Sept 15 - Tyrannosaurus Rex Sept 22 - Ice Age Giants Sept 29 - The Age of Humans October 6 - Women of Science October 20 - Sea Monsters October 13 - First Life October 27 - Sky Monster November 3 - The Mammoth Hunter November 10 - Cave Art 101 November 17 - Flintknapping Basics November 24 - Fire with Friction December 1 - Ancient Music December 8 - Primitive Fishing December 15 - Ice Age Clothing December 22 - Cordage (Rope-Making) These programs are free and open to the public via Zoom.
