Winter Fun in Wisconsin

Wisconsin winters are filled with more than just fun–they’re packed with activities and events, ranging from ice fisheries to polar plunges and radar runs. Many of these events also give back to meaningful causes. Keep reading to learn how you can get involved and make a difference, all while enjoying winter in Wisconsin!

Ice Fisherees

Ice fisherees have been a cherished tradition in Wisconsin for generations, with a few standout events that every Wisconsinite should know. First up is Fishin' For A Mission at Lake DuBay in Marathon County. This fishery supports St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, attracting over 1,500 attendees from across the Midwest each year. In addition to ice fishing, the event features raffles, food, and drinks to further boost their fundraising efforts. Another must-visit is the Annual Prairie du Chien Ice Fisheree, a family-friendly event offering raffles, prizes, live entertainment, and a kids' fishing expo.

Polar Plunges

For over 25 years, the Polar Plunge has become one of Wisconsin’s most beloved winter traditions. Held at various locations statewide, the plunge raises money for the Special Olympics. Beyond taking the plunge, these events also offer food and drink vendors, live music, raffles, and more. Over the past 25 years, the Polar Plunge has raised more than $20 million, helping to fund sports programs, healthcare screenings, and other training activities for Special Olympics athletes. The best part is you can enjoy winter fun while giving back to an amazing cause.

Radar Runs

Finally, no Wisconsin winter is complete without experiencing a radar run– a thrilling event where snowmobiles race across frozen lakes at high speeds. Many radar runs double as fundraisers for local causes or charities. One of the most notable is Hiller's Radar Run in St. Germain, held in memory of Mark Donald Hiller, the former race director for the St. Germain Radar Run. As the largest winter lake race in Wisconsin, Hiller’s event raises funds for Breast Cancer Awareness, the St. Germain Fire Department, and Plum Lake Ambulance. Another exciting event is the Bent's Camp Radar Run in Land O’ Lakes, which supports the local snowmobile club and offers food, drinks, and racing.

Get ready for an unforgettable Wisconsin winter–you’ll not only make memories but also have the opportunity to make a positive impact in your community.
