Resolutions.... no. Aspirations... hello!
So, it’s the new year. Hooray! We made it another rotation around the sun. Do you have a new year’s resolution or is that not a thing really anymore? To me, everyone seems to be over stating they have a new year’s resolution since the big ‘ol Covid hit, maybe even before. I recall mentionings of people wanting to lose weight or to start a new workout regime, give up smoking, be more present in their daily life, the list goes on; but, lately no one even mentions the thought of it. Like it is a very taboo thing to speak of now. My mind is wondering if this is a global thing or if it just the people that I am surrounded by that don’t really care about making these new year resolutions anymore. I, for one, don’t want to disappoint myself if I state that I am making a resolution, only to be let down by none other than myself; however, what will happen instead is I will make some aspirations for this new year that is ahead.
Making aspirations in place of resolutions seem to let off the stress that one can put on themselves during the year. They are more manageable, attainable and realistic. And why wouldn’t they be? There is no definitive outcome when setting aspirations because they are just our desires we have; open-ended dreams that you can make come true with closing your eyes and truly feeling the vibrations and bliss it creates. Stay with that feeling. The vibrations.
While perusing the interwebs I found that mindfulnessjourneys.com speaks of such things and what truly caught my eye was written by Brian Hilliard: “An aspiration is an open-ended wish for something positive. It does not have the seriousness of a resolution, of being so resolute in the face of great challenge. Whereas resolutions are full of hopefulness (and maybe fear of failure), aspirations are full of inspiration and set us up for a more joyful state of mind. We are not so obsessed with the outcome because making aspirations is in itself complete.”
I find myself in great company with Hilliard’s thoughts in written form. Resolutions have somewhat of a negative connotation to them, and perhaps that is from the lack of umph that dwindles more and more as the year progresses and we still seem to have made little strides. With aspirations we have good energy and vibrations flowing through and you can imagine your end goal and revel in the thought and feelings it brings. Now isn’t that the main feeling we actually want to accomplish? To feel that bliss when we reach that goal or aspiration? Having that feeling of the outcome before you “start” is more important than you think. If bringing that happiness and accomplishment to the forefront of your mind, have you not already received what you were looking for? To feel good. To feel happy. To feel in a state of bliss. You are much more likely to obtain the aspiration if you feel great and “on your high flying disk,” as Esther (Abraham) Hicks would say. The energy will flow easier without resistance.
I will leave you some wise words from someone who has made a living on helping individuals find their own bliss themselves. Whether you make resolutions or aspirations this year, keep this in mind: “When you reach for the thought that feels better, the universe is now responding differently to you because of that effort. And so, the things that follow you get better and better, too. So it gets easier to reach for the thought that feels better, because you are on ever-increasing, improving platforms that feel better.” – Abraham Hicks
