A day for the record books

A day for the record books A day for the record books

Well, this weekend, I joined the brotherhood of married men. Kaitlyn and I had a ceremony and reception out at Rock Ridge Orchard between Edgar and Stratford and to be honest, I don’t know if the day could have gone any better.

There are points in your life where a major event like graduation, getting married and having a child seems to fly by in a day. We’re told to take mental pictures of these days so as to not forget they happened and try to stay in the moment. I think I struggled with that.

There were points in time where I remember saying to myself, “I don’t need to worry about whether my family or friends are having a good time because if they aren’t that’s probably their fault.” It was very difficult for me to stay in that mindset the whole time though.

I was happy that we did a “first look” photo shoot where I got to see Kaitlyn in her dress before the actual ceremony. Before seeing her, I was stressed and running around to see what needed to be done. Once I saw her in that first look shoot, it was like all of my worries about the day going perfectly went away.

Rain was in the forecast and due to the fact that our ceremony was scheduled to be outdoors, we were worried that we’d have to pack everything up from outside and move it inside. But it didn’t seem as stressful or annoying after seeing her. The day ended up being a beautiful day with sunshine, a sunset and perfect temperature.

We had so much fun dancing, visiting and enjoying an awesome meal with family and friends.

One of the more astounding things I witnessed that day was the fact that my elementary school gym teacher and also Nathaniel’s dad, LeRoy, might be one of the better dancers I’ve ever seen. That is not something I saw coming!

One of my uncles in attendance told the crowd after he won the “Anniversary Dance” that the best marriage advice he could give me was, “Yes, dear.”

We got home from the hotel the next morning and our kitchen had so many gifts and cards that were dropped off by my parents the night before. We have so many people to thank for being a part of our wonderful day.

The vendors we had handling our meal, photography, videography, venue needs, makeup, hair, shuttles and music were all awesome. They were very independent in handling everything they could without the need to bother us with questions but they did ask us whenever possible if we needed anything.

Our parents were very helpful in organizing and handling the tiny details. Our wedding party did an awesome job of keeping the fun rolling and my groomsmen even ditched their suit coats to help set up cupcakes just before the ceremony.

Adding it all together, it made for the perfect day and there truly wouldn’t be anything I would change about the day.
