THE TRIBUNE-P HONOGRAPH PUBLISHED IN COLBY THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 1972 Fire destroys old church near Milan An old church filled with hay burned to the ground late Tuesday afternoon at Milan. The Abbotsford Fire Department, which fought the blaze, did save the nearby home of the Ronald Krueger family.

The church, built in 1912, last housed the congregation of the Evangelical Reform Church in the 1950s and had not been occupied since that time. The building was used for hay storage purposes and was owned by Alfred Schmidt. Mrs. Schmidt reported that no new hay had been added to the barn since last year. The Abbotsford Fire Department hosed several thousands of gallons of water on the Krueger structure to keep it from busting into flames according to Don Kalepp, assistant fire chief.
