ABBOTSFORD T RIBUNE PUBLISHED IN ABBOTSFORD THURSDAY, AUGUST 28, 1952 Baseball Players Guests of Chamber of Commerce Members of the American Legion Junior baseball team and the city team were guests of the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce dinner meeting held in the basement of the Presbyterian church Wednesday evening.

After a dinner served by the ladies of the Presbyterian church, Jack Nikolay, president of the Chamber of Commerce, introduced the players and called on Walter Danielson to detail the trip to Niles, Michig an, where the American Legion team played in a national tournament. He mentioned enjoying the trip and said they saw some very good baseball played. Each of the players was presented with a pen by the Chamber of Commerce and Kenneth Anderson, manager of the team, received a gift in appreciation of his fine work with the boys. Mr. Anderson then gave a short talk and presented each of the boys who played with his team a gold baseball mounted on a pin.

Plans for raising money for bleachers forthenearlycompletedgymatthehigh school were discussed. It was explained by H. J. Amacher, that bleachers of the roll-away type, suitable for the building, would cost approximately $10 per person accommodated. Bleachers of this type which would seat 300 persons, supplemented by temporary bleachers, are being considered and a plan whereby season tickets at $10 each would be sold as a means of raising money.

THE TRIBUNE-P HONOGRAPH PUBLISHED IN COLBY THURSDAY, AUGUST 24, 1972 Congressman Dave Obey visits Abbotsford “The quality of education should not be dependent on the amount of bucks in a school district’s pocket,” congressman Dave Obey told Abbotsford city officials and other interested citizens gathered for an informal noon luncheon Monday at Medo Farms restaurant.

Congressman Obey was one of three Democratic candidates who were touring the central Wisconsin-Clark county area on Monday, meeting people and shaking hands. Also present was state representative Joe Sweda, who now represents a portion of northeast Clark County in the newly reappor tioned 34th district and candidate for Clerk of the Circuit Court Steve W. Hemersback of Owen.

Congressman Obey touched briefly on several topics and was extremely critical of recent action in the House of Representatives in connection with anti-bussing legislation which cleared the House last week.

The Democratic congressman cited view in favor of additional funds for education from the federal budget, pointing out that school districts not favored with high valuations and rich residents would be able to provide equal education.

Obey was also critical of the Nixon administration over its failure to enforce uniform decisions on control of wages and prices while lauding the Nixon-Moscow arms limitation talks.
