ABBOTSFORD ABBOTSFORD THURSDAY, AUGUST 14, 1952 Owen Schraufnagel Signs Major League Contract Owen Schraufnagel, 17, has been signed to a 1953 contract by the St. Louis Cardinals, and will join the Johnson City farm club in the Appalachian League in the spring.

Owen who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schraufnagel, graduated from Abbotsford high school in May. He is a pitcher, outfielder and has played baseball on the school team, with the American Legion Junior team and with the Athletics in the Cloverbelt and Dairybelt leagues.

He is the first boy from Abbotsford to sign up for professional ball. Tony Kaufman, who signed Owen, is the regular scout for the St.

Louis Cardinals and stated that so far he had signed only three players.

Science Teacher Secured Jake E. de Hartog has been engaged by the Abbotsford school board to teach here this year. He will have charge of the band and will teach science. Herbert Juneau will take the chorus work and will work as supervising principal. Mr. de Hartog, a graduate of the Platteville State College, taught in Viola high school. He is married.

Abbotsford Lumber Co. Installs Radial Saw The Abbotsford Lumber Company has built a new saw shed to house a new De Walt Electric radial saw, which will make it possible to cut lumber to dimension.

THE TRIBUNE-P HONOGRAPH COLBY THURSDAY, AUGUST 10, 1972 New principal Alan Peters, 36, assistant principal for the past four years at Woodworth Junior High School in Fond du Lac, has been hired as the new principal of Abbotsford High School. He will replace Vincent Saulino, who resigned to take a vocational education coordinator position with Cooperative Education Service Agency No. 6 headquartered in Chippewa Falls.

Peters, married and the father of two children, is presently in his fourteenth year as an educator. He is presently completing his fourth year as summer school director of the entire summer school program in Fond du Lac which has an enrollment of 3,500 students in grades 3 through 12. Previous to moving to Fond du Lac, he was, for three years, senior high school principal of Blair High School.

His seven years of teaching experience before moving into school administration, seven years ago, includes teaching mathematics at Portage Junior- Senior High School for one year, one year at Suring High School and two years at Badger High School, Lake Geneva.

Peters’ undergraduate work was completed at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse where he received his bachelor’s degree. His graduate work was at the University of Wisconsin Superior where he earned a Masters Degree in Administration.

Peters in a sports enthusiast, having coached and participated in all sports.
