Keep cool, be courteous; advice to holiday drivers
Use your head, don’t lose it, as you celebrate the coming holiday weekend is the advice of the motor vehicle department.
Keeping cool and showing courtesy to other drivers and to pedestrians will go a long way toward keeping you out of traffic troubles the safety division declares.
Accident records maintained by the safety division show that in the five day period from June 30 through July 4 last year, 19 lives were lost in Wisconsin street and highway mishaps.
Unfortunately, motorists who become involved in accidents seek to place the blame almost anywhere except on themselves, the safety division says. They blame the road, the car, the weather, the other driver or philosophically say fate called their number. But those who study accident reports declare that law-breakers are the accident-makers.
So keep cool, whatever the temperature, and no matter how heavy the traffic, drive so that you’ll be alive on July 5.

Five baseball games are held in Abbotsford summer recreation league
Last week, Abbotsford played Spencer in five baseball games. Two games were played for ages 8-10 and 11-14. Also, one game for boys ages 15-17 was played to enable all to participate.
The first game for boys 15-17 found Abby at the short end. The Spencer pitcher had the players number all day as he pitched a no-hitter. Abby’s pitcher, Mark Paul, was not too far behind as he threw a one-hitter. But a combination of walks and errors led to Spencer’s four runs and a victory. A doubleheader was played on Thursday night at Spencer for boys ages 8 to 10 in the first game and 11 to 14 in the second. The first game was a poor one for Abby, being outplayed and losing 17 to 1.
A second double header between Abby and Spencer was played on Friday, June 23. In the first game, Abby got 3 runs in the first and second innings with Dickie Deming and Jeff Grambort providing the hitting power.
Today an afternoon game is being held in Abbotsford with Owen and tonight a game will be held at Spencer.
The baseball intramural league has been formed for those ages 8 to 12. There presently are three teams: the Athletics managed by Tom Beil and Jim Ogurek; the Knicks managed by Paul Nikolay and Mroczenski and the Underdogs managed by Rusty Mueller and Mark Hoover.
