Guess who’s back, back again

Guess who’s back, back again Guess who’s back, back again

Seemingly against all better judgment, someone has given me free reign to write an entire column about whatever it is that pops into my head. Or at least, I’m fairly certain that was what I was told. Maybe not in those exact words, but that seemed to be the gist of it.

I cannot say I condone such a decision, but here we are. There is no going back now. If you are coming to this editorial looking for something truly eye opening, some groundbreaking philosophical wisdom, then I am afraid that you may find yourself somewhat disappointed. I’m afraid too much of my mind is dedicated to random film trivia and sports statistics for it to be much use for anything beyond that. For which I can only apologize profusely and hope one or two of you don’t mind all the Star Wars references.

Oh, but where are my manners? This is, after all, supposed to be an introductory statement or some such, and I haven’t even bothered with my name yet. Nathaniel Underwood, freshly minted reporter of the Tribune-Phonograph, at your service.

Now, if you are thinking to yourself, “Hmmm, that name sounds familiar,” then I can only assume you must be thinking of Nathaniel Underwood, the esteemed photographer/illustrator, who is…not me. Though if you are interested in digital painting or graphic design and you are unfamiliar with his work, I do suggest Googling him, as he does have some decent pieces.

Given that you won’t be getting the opinions and of a seemingly superior Nathaniel and are stuck with myself instead, I suppose it’s only fair that I give you some background on myself, just so you know what you are getting into. I actually grew up in the area and graduated from Colby High School in 2013. I then went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for four years, getting a very cool degree in Radio, Television, and Film with an emphasis in film production. Since graduating, I’ve worked on a number of projects, from short films to documentaries, the quality of which seemed to be inversely proportional to how much responsibility I had in the production process, which I’m sure was just a statistical anomaly.

And now I’m back here, writing sports stories, taking pictures, and probably driving poor Neal insane. It’s been a bit of an adjustment getting reacquainted with everything (since when does Dorchester have a stoplight? Where did they move the Colby library again? Has McDonald’s always had two drive up lanes? Because I swear it didn’t before) but it’s also been fun to see how things have changed. And also see what things haven’t, for that matter. I’m still learning, or relearning, as it were, but I’m excited to do so.

With that being said, if you’re ever at a sporting event in the area and you see someone in a baseball cap fumbling with a camera who vaguely resembles the picture you see here, feel free to say hi! I look forward to getting to know everyone!
