Churches Plan Good Friday and Easter Services Friday, April 11, is Good Friday. Abbotsford business places will be closed for the three hours from 12:00 to 3:00 in observane of the hours of agony uring Christ’s crucifixion and death.
A mass of the the presanctified will start at noon at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. At Christ Lutheran Church there will be services with Holy Communion at 1:15 o’clock. Stores will reopen at 3:00 o’clock and remain open until 9:30.
The religious observance of this great day is urged upon all, either by church attendance or by joining in at home, listening to the special radio broadcasts. On Easter Sunday, the churches extend the most cordial invitation to worship at the church of your choice.
County Cancer Drive The Clark County Cancer Society is again appealing to all county residents for financial support in the annual drive for funds which continues through the month of April.
Money that you give will be used to expand programs of services to patients, public an professional education and research into cancer’s causes and cures. The Mcardle Memorial Laboratory at the Wisconsin General Hospital in Madison is one of the ten centers in the nation devote exlusively to cancer research.
Clark County has a new captain this year, Mrs. Russell Mead, Greenwood, a new dressings chairman, Mrs. Harry.

Mrs. Skic of Merrill Farm Wife of Year Mrs. Marie Skic of Merrill is the winner of the 1982 Farm Wife of the Year contest sponsored by the Colby Chamber of Commerce. She will be honored at a innner at the Sword May 1, with Laverne Ausman, secretary of the Wisconsin Dept. of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection as principal speaker.
Mrs. Skic was runner up in last year’s Farm Wife of the Year contest to Mrs. Dorene Newman of Unity. This year Mrs. Edith Gross of Rt. 4 Merrill was the second place winner. Third place went to Mrs. Barbara J. Kayser, Janesville. Mrs. Skic, a widow, has nine children ranging in age from 10 to 30. She handles all phases of management of the Skic farm, which includes 437 cropland acres, 155 milk cows and 55 young stock. She does the buying and selling, hiring and firing, financial books and record keeping, does field work and directs and assists in equipment maintenance.
She is also involved in the physical operation of the farm, including soil preparation, planting, harvesting, milking and other barn chores and field work. The farm started at 198 acres with 30 milking guernseys. Today there are 480 acres plus 250 rented, and 155 milking Holsteins.
Besides her involvement on the family farm, Mrs. Skic has been active in farm related organizations, community functions and other interests.
