Music club has double program at meeting

The Abbotsford Music Study and Choral Club met at the home of Mrs. R. J. Janda Tuesday evening. Chamber Music was one subject of study and the contributions made to that field by William Mason were considered. Selections from the Schubert Trio No. 1 in B flat major were played to illustrate the structure of chamber music.

A prominent organization in Wisconsin playing chamber music, is the Pro Ate Quartette, at the University of Wisconsin.

Mrs. F. W. Bobbe then presented the subject of planning a symphony program and gave a brief b i o g r aphy of Theoore Thomas, noted director at the turn of the century an dcompared his method that was used by Efrem Kurtz, noted director of today. Recordings from Schubert’s “Unfinished Symphony” and Hayden’s “Toy Symphony” were used in illustration.

The group sang “The spacious Firmament on High,” February hymn of the month, and the March hymn, “Welcome Happy Morning.”

The next meeting will be April 1 at the home of Mrs. Vern Steffen.

Winter makes exit in robe of white snow A thick blanket of wet snow plastered the landscape and highways Tuesday, in a send off to winter. Spring officially comes March 20. Mild weather has been with us for several days and the old snow has been disappearing.

Police apprehend shoplifters Several local juveniles were apprehended in Abbotsford and Colby stores for shoplifting this past week. They have been referred to the juvenile authorities.

Chief of Police Albert Podevels Jr. issued an alert to shop owners to be on the lookout for shoplifters. He stated the department had received eight complaints last week regarding shoplifting.

On March 16 four local runaway juveniles were apprehended by the police department, two at Spencer and two in the bus depot at Abbotsford. The two purchased tickets for Milwaukee. The juveniles were returned to their parents.

At 10:05 a.m. on March 17 in Abbotsford, a pickup truck driven by Richard Young Sr., of Colby, struck the rear end of a semitrailer parked on Highway 13. The pickup was a total wreck and the police department estimated damages to the trailer at hundred dollars.

Two burglaries at Abbotsford Two electric sanders value at $160 and approximately $200 worth of meat was taken from the Abbotsford Processing Plant during a breakin Saturday night. Earl Spinhirne stated the meat stolen included hams, sausage and bacon. Entry was gained by forcing the rear door.

Ernest Vetterkind of Abbotsford reported two ice fishing poles, an ice auger and a solid state yellow transistor radio were stolen during the night.
