City basket ball tourney at Armory March 7-8-9 A basketball tournament for city teams, will beheld for the fifth successive year, will get under way at the armory Friday, March 7, and continue through Saturday and Sunday.

Friday night’s games are WIGMm Medford vs. B Btry. 120th F. A. BN., Marshfield, at 7:30; Abbotsford Guards vs. Weltman’s Stevens Point, at 8:45.

Saturday night, Marathon plays Plainfield at 7:30 and the Dorchester Aces plays the Neillsville Athletics at 8:45 p.m.

Sunday a f t e r noon winners of games 1 and 2, at 2 o’clock; winners of games 3 and 4 at 3:15 o’clock. Sunday night consolation, losers of game 5 and 6 at 8:45 o’clock. Admission to all games will 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for students, tax included, except for Sunday night, when adults will be charged 65 cents and students, 35 cents.

Abbotsford Lumber Co. to Start Business March 1 The Schraugnagel Lumber Company has been sold to Robert Larson, of Bayfield. who has operated the Bayfield Lumber and Fuel Compay for the past years and will remain in charge there and will have a manager here to start about the first of March.

The new business, which will be named the Abbotsford Lumber Company, will carry a complete line of building materials and paints.

Ag Committee approves Poplar River project Seventh District Congressman Dave Obey today announced that the Conservation and Credit Subcommittee of the House Agriculture Committee has approved the Poplar River Watershed project in Clark and Taylor Counties.

“While approval by the full House Agriculture Committee cannot be taken for granted and the Administration must still request funds for the project, this is a first gain step toward making this long awaited project a reality,” Cong ressman Obey said. The est imated cost of the 105,000 acre project is $1,235,000 with the federal gover nment’s share covering 69% of that cost, or $849,000. Obey said, “The watershed development should provide improved flood protection for the City of Owen and stimulate economic development in both Clark and Taylor Counties. We have been working for more than two years to obtain Subcommittee approval and I am tremendously pleased we finally made it.”

Abby to meet Stratford in Regional opener Abbotsford will play in Owen-Withee Regional Basketball Tournament Friday night, March 3. They will play the first game at 7 against Stratford, and Loyal will play the second game against Edgar at 8:30. Tickets are available at the Abbotsford High School.
