Farm and Home Week The annual Farm and Home week will be held next week at Madison from Feb. 4 and Feb. 8.

The program gets under way at 1:15 p.m. on Feb. 4. The first two days have been set aside for Wisconsin Homemakers, with programs dealing with the home and family. There will also be sectional meetings on food production, livestock production and disease control, and the developments in agricultural engineering.

The balance of the week will include the dedication of the new Babcock hall and recognition to Gustav Bohstedt, an outstanding feeding specialist from the University of Wisconsin. In addition, there will be programs dealing with all phases of the farm and farm home.

The county agricultural committees of the state, who are also the soil conservation district supervisors, will hold their annual meetings in conjunction with Farm and Home week.

Cold Wave Is Gone Rising temperature replaced the sub-zero grip that was so firm here the first of the week, when temperatures dropped as low as 22 below and never got above the zero mark all day.

The weather forecast is for mild weather until, possibly, Sunday.

Howard Thompson, federal weatherman, reminded Wisconsin residents that a year ago, Wednesday, the state was in one of its severest cold waves when Lone Rock registered 53 degrees below zero.

Winter Road Report Available Anytime A special road condition reporting service of the Wisconsin division of highways can help the public plan for winter trips according to W.J. Buglass, chief maintenance engineer.

Local or statewide road conditions are available at any time, day or night, in all district highway offices and in the central office in Madison.

The special number for people in this area to call to obtain information about winter driving conditions is Eau Claire 715-836-2891. Statewide road conditions are compiled by the department of transportation from reports from district highway maintenance offices, the State Patrol, and other local services.

Fish Harvest for 1970-71 Reported The total harvest of fish during the 1970-71 winter was 25,902,000, trout and salmon, 565,000 northern pike, 631,000 walleye and 24,438,000 panfish.

A recent Department of Natural Resources survey of winter fishing during 1970-71 revealed that 29% of all anglers participated in winter fishing, making some 3,000,000 trips and catching 26,000,000 fish.

The Great Lakes accounted for 166,000 trips and half of the trout and salmon caught in the state during the winter were taken from the Great Lakes.

The survey was made by sending questionnaires to 7,900 resident and non-resident purchaser of 1970 Wisconsin fishing licenses. Averages and ratios from the sample were then projected to the number of licenses sold in 1970 to arrive at statewide estimates.
