Rural Arts Museum to unveil new buildings

To the editor: As a part of the 55th anniversary of Colby Cheese Days, the Colby Rural Arts Museum will be celebrating the grand opening of two new buildings: a barn and a firehouse.

The barn will display both lumbering and farming machinery. While many of these items were originally displayed in the Heritage Building, because of lack of space, often visitors couldn’t actually get close, and in some cases, touch the items, or read the tags that identified their purpose. They are now spaced and identified with new, larger signage.

In addition new items have been added, for which we didn’t have space to display previously. As a result, we’ve now been able to rearrange our cheese making and washing machine exhibits in the Heritage Building, allowing visitors easier access to these items.

The firehouse, built by the Colby Fire and EMS Association, features two antique fire engines, both of which had been in storage for a number of years, and could be seen only occasionally, and never together before now. The fire house has been constructed to resemble the original Colby Firehouse. In the near future, additional displays of fire equipment and historical pictures and documents will be added to the fire house display.

So we invite you to come and see our new buildings and displays, and if you haven’t visited us before, or even if you have, you can also tour our one-room school house and settlers cabin. Lee Kaschinska president Rural Arts Museum

Home-baked goodies back for July 23 blood drive

To the editor: Hello friends, neighbors, and blood donors. Today I looked at my calendar and I had a wake-up call. The blood drive is not even two weeks away so I realized I needed to get more information out.

The Red Cross is following CDC guidelines — no mask needed if fully vaccinated. Also, temps will no longer be taken at entry, only during the health history process. Home baked goodies are allowed if they are individually packaged. I’m going to try to have some of these available...I know they have been missed!

There is currently a critical need for blood. As an incentive, the Red Cross donors will receive a $10 Amazon.com gift card. So, please, consider rolling up your sleeve and joining us.

The Abbotsford Colby Community Blood Drive will be held at Abbotsford City Hall, 203 N. First St., Abbotsford, on Friday, July 23, from noon to 6 p.m.

For an appointment call 1-800-733-2767 (1-800-RED CROSS) or visit redcrossblood. org Thank you. Hope to see you there!
