Why I like ‘80s music the best

Why I like ‘80s music the best Why I like ‘80s music the best

We all grew up listening to our favorite genres of music. For instance, pop, jazz, country and rock. Well, you see, I’m a little bit different with music, when it comes to the people that are my age. They’re all listening to country and rap, but not me. I listen to the 80’s. 80’s music just hits a lot different than today’s music. Maybe it’s because back then they had long hair, crazy outfits and make-up. Plus they actually used real instruments. Unlike today, when most of the music is just made by synthesizers. Don’t get me wrong, some of the music sounds alright, but it’s just not really my cup of tea.

Why 80’s music? Well, I was raised listening to Def Leppard, Journey, Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi and many more artists. When I was younger, my mom would take my brother and I up to our grandparents’ house every weekend. On that half hour trip up north, my mom would have Big Cheese 107.9 or 103.3 WGLX on. That’s where it all started.

Fast forward to my freshman year. My brother and I would sit in the parking lot getting ready to leave school after practice. He would turn the radio on, and the stations he’d have on were the popular teen stations like 95.5 and 96.7. I would be sitting there shaking my head, and then quickly turn the station to Big Cheese or 103.3 WGLX. He would ask me why I would do such a thing. I’d say “Because the music on these stations isn’t really good anymore. They’re not like the early 2000s music, that was actually good and wasn’t all synthetic music, and they didn’t rap half the songs.” He would then agree with me, and keep one of the stations on.

When Christmas came that year, my grandparents got me a Samsung smart watch and Airpods. With the Airpods, I could connect them to the watch, and then I could listen to music through the watch. I had to invest in Spotify first in order to make that happen. I then downloaded Spotify, and created my first playlist I called “My 80’s Playlist.” Over the past three years of having that playlist, I’ve added so many 80’s songs, that it takes 27 plus hours to get through the whole thing. That’s probably about 300 to 400 songs. I don’t know why, but I really feel proud of myself for having that many songs in that playlist.

I have more playlists instead of having “My 80s Playlist.” I do once in a while listen to some of today’s songs that are big, but the more I listen to them, the more I start to dislike the songs, like finding out truly what the song is about. Most of the 80’s songs are all about the same thing any ways so I really just don’t care. I do also listen to 50’s music. Why? I’m not sure. It’s probably because I like some of the beats to the songs, jazzy funk. To me, though, 80’s music will always take the cake. My mom says she raised me right.

GO FOR IT!
