Giving this journalism thing a try Giving this journalism thing a try

Hello, my name is Brooke Rogaczewski. I am a summer intern working at TP Printing. I am a senior at Athens High School. I would like to tell you a little bit about myself.

I have an interest in journalism and photography, which is why I am interning at TP Printing, so I can dive into them both to see if this is something I want to continue with in the future. I have other interests, such as art and music. Art and music to me are something I can relax to when stressed out or feeling down.

I became interested in journalism this year during my English 11 class. We did a lot of writing activities. While most of the class was complaining about the assignments, I really didn’t seem to mind doing them. As we kept doing more writing activities — and the better grades I was getting than on my other homework — it came to me that I liked writing and I can possibly see myself doing some type of journalism in the future. Then came the day for the career research paper.

As a junior, you are required to write a career research paper. You pick a job you are interested in and write about it. Some questions you may consider include how long of a college education you’ll need, what kinds of classes you’ll have to take, and how much money you’ll be making. I picked journalism and researched all about it. I became more interested in it the more I researched it. There are so many things I could be, like a broadcaster, investigative journalist or a photojournalist. I looked more specifically at photojournalism, because it’s a journalist that uses photos. I thought, “I could do work for the newspaper, because they use photography and journalism.”

The beginning of the summer came around, and my grandma pointed out this job to me. I was all for it. It was exactly what I was researching for my paper. I told her to get me an application, so I could apply. I also had some backup job choices, just in case this one didn’t work out. During this time of figuring everything out, I learned that I had some amazing friends. Spending time with these friends can push me to do new things, and give me just the right the amount of confidence I need to get out of my comfort zone, and explore more. My friends did just that.

I told them about this job, and they said “Do it, if it’s something you’re interested in, see if you really want to do it in your future.” My friends are always pushing me to be better, and I do the same for them. If I didn’t have these friends I probably wouldn’t be working here today; I’d probably still be at home asleep.

So, I want to thank them for pushing me out of my comfort zone, and giving me that right amount of confidence to get this intern job.

GO FOR IT!
