Wilhemli to move dairy plant to Abbotsford

E.H. Streckert sold the property on Highway 13 where the retail yard is located to Herbert Wilhelmi. Mr. Streckert will operate the plant the early part of June when Mr. Wilhelmi will start remodeling the building for a dairy plant.

Present plans are to put a dairy bar in the front part where malted milks and sundaes will be served and dairy products will be sold. A picture window will open to the dairy, which will be a white tiled room, where the pasteurizing and bottling will be done.

The Wilhelmi farm was sold to Elmar Behrnt of Richmond, Ill, who will moved here about Sept. 1. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Wilhelmi and Mrs. Henry Wilhelmi will move to the upstairs apartment in the newly acquired building.

Tennis courts to be built

Plans for the recreation area were discussed Tuesday evening, when a fair sized group of men met at the site west of the ball park.

A call for many helpers is now made for Tuesday evening, May 8, when concentrated action will be taken on making the tennis courts. Weather permitting, the men are asked to come about 7 o’clock with rakes, shovels, post hole diggers, and lawn rollers, and work as long as the night permits.

Tennis nets, swings, baby swings, teeter totters and one slide have been ordered.

Abby set for cable TV franchise

Representatives of cable television firms were expected to meet with the Abbotsford City Council this week in hopes of winning the cable franchise for the city.

The council changed its regular Monday meeting this week to Tuesday night because of a scheduling conflict. Any actions taken by the group could not be included in this week’s paper, which is put together Tuesday.

The city’s cable television ordinance, which was put together over the past several months, will serve as the standard by which any firm hoping to win the franchise will have to follow.

The franchise will be granted initially for five years. The ordinance has provisions for extending or renewing the franchise upon a favorable review of the operation during those five years. The chosen company must file for necessary federal authorization papers for construction of the system within 30 days of being awarded the franchise. The ordinance also states that service must be made available to potential subscribers within one year of the beginning of construction.

How much will cable service cost Abbotsford viewers? According to the ordinance, the basic service for residential, commercial and multi-family units will run $8 a month after a $20 installation fee. Additional outlets will cost $10 to install and another $2 monthly.
