Visit the Colby Community Library (CCL) during the week of November 14-18 to vote on your favorite FOODstruction sculptures. Twelve area groups committed to purchasing food items and building a creative sculpture from food items. They are AbbyBank, Colby Lions, St. Mary Christian Home and School Association, Loos Machine and Automation, Nicolet National Bank, Friends of the CCL, Thrivent Action Team, Glorycroft Fibers, Colby Community Library, Colonial Health and Rehabilitation of Colby, BBD Sports Shop, and Pearl Vorland Memorial.

The sculptures include a wedding cake, slice of pumpkin pie, and breakfast skillet. Visitors will also see a lighthouse, pyramid, castle, and the crosses of Calvary. An alpaca, fireplace with train, birthday celebration bags, veteran’s salute fireplace, and a loving heart round out the dozen sculptures.

For those not creating a sculpture this year, food items are welcome. Collection boxes are available in the CCL entrance; only non-perishable, nonexpired food items. All food, from the sculptures and the collection bins, will be donated to the pantries located in Zion Lutheran Church (CUP) in Colby and the Trinity Food Pantry in Unity the week of Thanksgiving.

Stop by to see the creativity and generosity of the donors in the Colby community and pick up a ballot to vote for your favorite display. Trophies (made of cans of food to be donated to the pantries) will be awarded to the four sculptures receiving the most votes. A Thrivent Action Team grant helped fund the project.

“What started in 2018 with Cansgiving at the CCL, and in 2020 was Foodsgiving off-site at participating businesses, has now returned to the library again as FOODstruction. While the locations have changed, the need for food remains. We thank the groups who participated this year and hope the community supports the project by bringing in food items when they visit to view and vote on the creative sculptures,” stated Vicky Calmes, CCL director.

While visiting the CCL to vote (November 14-18), there will be a “Makesgiving” craft area available. Anyone may “make” a turkey place mat and library staff will laminate it for “giving” to local assisted living facilities. They will be delivered to the Colby Senior Care and The Waterford at Colby for Thanksgiving dinner.
