CCL is grateful this November

November encourages reflections on thankfulness. The Colby Community Library (CCL) is grateful for everyone’s patronage throughout the year. We are looking forward to serving current patrons and invite all community members to join the CCL library family.

Visit the CCL during November 14-18 to vote on your favorite FOODstruction sculpture. Ten area groups committed to building a sculpture from food items they donated which will help the food pantries in Colby and Unity. Stop by to see the creativity and generosity of the donors.

On Friday, November 11 at 6 p.m., the first TGIF (Thank Goodness It’s Friday) class of the year will be held. This is for adults who want to learn the art of charcoal drawing. Supplies are included in the $35 fee. Call the library to register and arrange for payment. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the CCL group. Snacks and beverages are welcome. If you have suggestions for upcoming classes/instructors, please contact the library.

Thanks to the generosity of the community, nearly 300 pairs of socks will be donated to veterans groups, homeless shelters, and domestic aid homes in the area. Area people are always so willing to help others in need.

Thanksgiving Crafts

Craft kits are bagged up for Thanksgiving creativity to take and make at home. Parents, grandparents, caregivers, and children have enthusiastically responded to these crafts over the past two years, enabling the CCL to provide 9000 craft bags to aspiring artists (through the financial support of area businesses). Now, thanks to the generosity of the families of Jean Brunker and Joyce Rannow, the program is able to continue into 2023. Please limit your selection to one bag per child per visit.

Evening Book Club

The Evening Book Club of the CCL will be held on Tuesday, November 15 at 6 p.m. “The Sun Does Shine” by Anthony Ray Hinton will be discussed, led by Vlasta K. Blaha.

Craft and Hobby will be Friday, November 18 beginning at 4 p.m. Bring crafts of choice to work on and food and drink as desired. This is an evening for adults to work on individual projects.

In honor of Veteran’s Day, books and movies featured in November will honor the military in both the adult and children’s sections. Check out the selection for educational reading and viewing.

CCHD Site

The Colby Community Library is a Clark County Health Department Site for the distribution of free COVID test kits and N95 masks. Pick them up during regular library hours.

Friday mornings at 10 a.m. are CCL Story Times for children ages 2-5. Stories, songs, rhymes and crafts are offered in a family- friendly environment. Pick up a schedule of dates from now through December.

Local Authors

The CCL has, for sale, books by local authors Alan Gurtner and Joseph Lange. Gurtner’s book is “A Village Called Unity” and contains photos and descriptions of our neighboring village to the south. Lange’s books are memoirs of life in Smallville (Abbotsford) or fictional titles featuring Dr. Trevor Knight. Both authors have also donated copies to the library for patrons to check out.

The CCL will be closed for Thanksgiving on November 24 but will be open on Friday, November 25 at 9 a.m. Autumn/winter hours at the CCL are MWF from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and T/TH from noon - 7 p.m. Curbside is available by calling 715-2232000 during regular business hours.
