October is National Friends of Libraries Month. The local Friends of the Colby Community Library (CCL) group plays a vital role in supporting the CCL with time, talent, and treasure. Consider joining to meet community-minded people and to show your support of the CCL.

The community service project, open to everyone, will collect new socks for men, women, and children to be donated to Central Wisconsin veterans’ organizations, homeless shelters, and domestic aid shelters. The local communityhas been generous to service projects in the past. Consider helping the CCL help others through the Socktober project.

Plinko

Beginning Monday, Oct. 3, play “Plinko” at the CCL. When checking out materials, a patron may place a plinko disc on the game board. There will be prize carts for patrons to choose prizes to correspond with their play result. During the month of October, library guests can have one play per cardholder when checking out items. The game will continue until prizes are gone. This is for all ages.

Thank Goodness It’s Friday classes are back. Registration begins Monday, Oct. 3 for Charcoal Expressions. The class will be Friday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. in the RCU Community Room. The event for adults, hosted by the Friends of the CCL, costs $35 for instruction and supplies. Snacks and beverages are welcome to be brought in. Payment needs to be arranged at the time of registration.

Plan to join the Friends of theColbyCommunityLibrary and Rural Arts Museum as Jerry Janiszewski will present the history of brewing in Wisconsin on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. in the RCU Community Room at the CCL. He will also highlight the impact of prohibition on people and breweries.

People attending the program may register for door prizes of beer-themed items. The presentation is free to the public and is the annual cooperative speaker evening sponsored by the Friends and Rural Arts members.

Remember to be filling out the adult Passport Challenge for 2022. Entries are due Dec. 30 to be in the drawing for Abby/Colby Chamber gift certificates.

Friday, Oct. 14, the Clark County Health Department will be at the library for a flu shot clinic from 9 a.m. - noon. No appointments are necessary. The health department will have information on payment schedule. The evening book club will meet Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. to discuss “American Dirt” by Jeanine Cummins. Terra Newman is the discussion leader.

Craft and Hobby is scheduled for Friday, October 21 beginning at 4 p.m. in the RCU Community Room at the CCL.

Friday morning weekly story times begin at 10 a.m. in the Children’s Community Room. Children, ages 2-5, and their adult are invited to hear stories, sing songs, and create crafts. If you are interested in joining the literary fun, contact the library.

Take and Make bags are available for young crafters each month at no cost. Harvest corn kits, pumpkins, and friendly Halloween crafts are featured in October.

Foodstruction

If you are a business, family, or individual interested in participating in Foodstruction 2022, please contact the library to reserve your spot. The food sculptures, made of non-perishable/non-expired food items purchased by the display’s creators, need to be constructed in the community room at the library during the first week of November. Then, patrons will be able to vote for their favorite display for the next two weeks. The food will be delivered to the area pantries the week of Thanksgiving.

Sake’s alive! The CCL’s five!

The “new” Colby Community Library building turns five years old in December. Look for a celebration during the month to commemorate this milestone.

The Colby Community Library’s autumn hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from Noon - 7 p.m. The library is closed on Saturday and Sunday during the autumn and wintermonths.Wewillalways assist patrons with curbside.
