Fall brings fun at Colby Community Library

Fall brings fun at Colby Community Library Fall brings fun at Colby Community Library

September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month. Quit “Dragon Your Feet” and come into the Colby Community Library to get a free card. No one is too young or too old to begin a lifetime of reading adventures.

The CCL Evening Book Club will meet Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. The book to be discussed is “The Forest of Vanishing Stars” by Kristin Harmel. The book was chosen by member Lisa Brill and she will lead the discussion. Tuesday, October 18 at 6 p.m. will be the next meeting. The book choice, by Terra Newman, is “American Dirt” by Jean Cummins. If you missed the sign-ups and would like to join, contact the library. Currently, there is not enough interest in a daytime book club.

Adult Craft and Hobby night will meet Friday, Sept. 16 beginning at 4 p.m. This is an evening to work on individual projects or to help brainstorm for upcoming service projects; this is not a class night. Participants may bring food and beverages. Adult Craft and Hobby nights will be the third Friday of each month.

Story Times are back and there is still time to register. Children two years and up are invited to attend with a parent or caregiver. Stories, songs, poems, literary activities, and crafts are included. Story Times begin Friday, Sept. 16 at 10 a.m. Pick up a schedule of the Friday morning dates from September through December.

Children’s Crafts

Each month, a variety of Take and Make Crafts are available. The kits are seasonal in nature, and recommended for youth from pre-school to elementary age. Please limit crafts to one kit per child per visit.

Upcoming Celebrations

October is National Friends of Libraries Month with several activities planned, including a Plinko game at checkouts and a “Socktober” tree to collect new socks for children, adults, veterans, and homeless people in our area. A speaker, “The Beer Guy,” will be hosted at the library in cooperation with the Rural Arts Museum on Thursday, October 6 at 7 p.m.

TGIF

Thank Goodness It’s Friday (TGIF) classes are being scheduled for the year. Watch for details of the first class—charcoal art—being planned for Nov. 11 with registration opening Oct. 3. If there is an area of interest you would like to learn about or you would like to teach a class, please contact the library.

Foodstruction

Local businesses, families, and individuals are reminded to begin thinking about a food sculpture to build at the Colby Community Library for “Foodstruction 2022.” Food items will be donated to the CUP Food Pantry in Colby and Trinity Food Pantry in Unity.

The Colby Community Library is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon - 7 p.m. Summer hours are over. For the autumn and winter, the library will be closed on Saturday and Sunday. Curbside pickup is available during open hours by calling 715-223-2000.
