“March” to the Colby Community Library

“March” to the Colby Community Library “March” to the Colby Community Library

Whether March’s weather comes in and goes out like a lion or lamb, the Colby Community Library (CCL) has a new activity sure to please. When checking out items during March, receive a slip to creatively name either the large stuffed lion or lamb.

At the end of the month, impartial animal experts will choose the two names they like the best, and the stuffed animals will have new homes with the winners.

Plan to pick up kits, beginning March 1 until all are gone, to help with Maddie Thums Memorial Sewathon and CCL’s Make-a-Difference Day. The events will NOT be held onsite this year; kits are bagged up with the necessary supplies to take and make at home.

Items sewn and donated in memory of former nurse and CCL volunteer Maddie Thums will be reusable ice pack covers, taggy blankets, procedure dolls and mini gowns.

Make-a-Difference Day projects are adult-sized fleece blankets and fleece ice pop holders. All items will benefit youth and adult patients at the Marshfield Medical Center.

Thrivent Action Teams and Creative Hideaway are financial sponsors. Return finished items by April 9 to the Colby Community Library for delivery during National Library Week in April.

The Friends of the CCL’s annual meeting will be Thursday, March 10 at 6 p.m. Friends members who bring a friend to join will receive a choice of t-shirt or canvas bag with the CCL’s logo.

The Friends are financial sponsors of many of the programs the library offers. If you and your family appreciate all the offerings, consider joining the Friends.

Take and Make Crafts

Stop in for free youth crafts during the month of March. There will be projects celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, followed by Easter and spring craft kits.

Get a jump on spring cleaning and bring books, movies, cds and puzzles in good, clean, saleable condition to Forward Bank, Colby location. Now through July 1, drop items off during Forward’s regular business hours. (Yes, you may return those books you purchased last year for us to resell again.)

The Cheese Days Book and Movie Sale is planned for July 14-16 at the Lion’s Shelter in Colby.

No fooling! The Colby Community Library has been selected to assist with serving the VFW Fish Fry on April Fool’s Day. Mark April 1 on your calendar and plan to attend between 5-9 p.m. and be waited on by supporters of the CCL.

Earnings will be used to sponsor library programs in the upcoming year. For those interested in serving, contact the library at 715-223-2000.
