‘Dog Days of Summer’ to start Monday at CCL

‘Dog Days of Summer’ to start Monday at CCL ‘Dog Days of Summer’ to start Monday at CCL

Plan to visit the Colby Community Library (CCL) in August to join in “Dog Days of Summer” fun.

The RCU Community Room at the CCL has been transformed into an “Adopt-ABook” Pet Shop. From Aug. 2 through 31, pick out your favorite animal book (or books) to adopt.

Are you a farmer? Do you like jungle animals? Are you a bird lover? Do woodland animals appeal to you? Perhaps water animals are a favorite. Maybe dinosaurs are of interest to you. Or how about African or desert animals? There are books in all these categories ready to be adopted.

There is a cost per book. The CCL will acknowledge your donation with a bookplate — for you, a loved one or “in memory of.” Sponsors of books will be the first one to check out and enjoy the book; when brought back, it will be available for others to check out for years to come.

This will be done on a first come, first served basis, as there are only 175 new animal books available.

The Make and Take Craft (and bring back) for August are Octopus Dog Toys. Pick up a kit beginning Aug. 2 until all are gone. Take the kit home and complete the toy. Return the finished craft to the CCL by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31. All the dog toys will be donated to the Clark County Humane Society.

If you have fleece fabric and tennis balls at home, you may pick up a pattern at the library to make additional toys.

Donations are also being accepted for the Clark County Humane Society. Bring in pet food or treats; cleaning supplies such as bleach, PineSol, trash bags, cat litter; or paper goods such as copier paper, paper towels, toilet paper and Kleenex. Check the brochures available at the library or visit www.cchs-petshelter.org for specific donation details. The CCL staff and volunteers will transport the items to Neillsville.

The library has colorful brochures explaining the “Dog Days of Summer” programs. Stop by to grab one or several to share with your animal loving friends and family.

Featured in the library for check out are dog-themed books and movies for both adults and youth.

Use the month of August to catch up on reading and viewing before the start of the school year.
