CCL to unveil ‘Tails & Tales’ CCL to unveil ‘Tails & Tales’

Registration will be open from June 1 to June 19 for the Colby Community Library’s “Tails and Tales” Summer Reading Program.

Register in person, pre-register via Facebook or call 715-223-2000 and library staff will have your materials ready for you with no waiting in line.

Children ages 3-12 are invited to join the Reading Record Program. Keep track of pages read or listened to on your reading record and become eligible for a prize choice from the library’s “Castle of Prizes” at the Reading Prize Finale on Thursday, July 22, at 10 a.m. in the CCL outdoor amphitheater. (Rain date is Friday, July 23, at 10 a.m.) A minimum of 500 pages must be read and recorded to be in the prize drawings. Books need to be checked out from the Colby Community Library to be used for the reading record program.

Participants are asked to read at the appropriate level. You may begin checking out and reading books when you register; however, only books checked out after signing up may be counted. The earlier you register, the more pages you can read and count. The reading program is based on honesty—record only the pages you actually read or have read to you.

Record pages and return your reading record to the CCL by 5 p.m. on Monday, July 19, 2021 to be eligible for prizes.

Readers reaching the Royalty Club will have their names in the “Castle of Prizes” drawing first; library staff will then work their way backwards through the clubs, ending with the Pirate Club members.

Royalty Club: Read or listen to 4,000 or more pages Dragon Club: Read or listen to 3,000 to 3,999 pages Unicorn Club: Read or listen to 2,0002,999 pages Knight Club: Read or listen to 1,0001,999 pages Pirate Club: Read or listen to 500-999 pages

Decorate a coat of arms about yourself to hang on the “Palace Wall.” Return it to the CCL by 5 p.m. on Monday, July 19, to earn a chance in a random drawing for “dragon-themed” prizes at the finale.

Visit the CCL to see the “Fairy Tale Display Case.” Fill out a slip when you visit the library to guess how many pieces the display contains. (Limit of one guess per day).

The submitted guesses will be checked, and those closest to the number of items, without going over, will be the winners. The winner and runners-up will be able to choose a prize from the items in the display at the finale.

Passport activity fun

A “passport” activity booklet will be included in your registration bag. Complete 30 activities and fill in the blanks with what you accomplished.

Return it by 5 p.m. on Monday, July 19. Prize bags will be awarded at the finale.

Monday, June 21, through Friday, July 2: Pick-up “Build-It-Bags” at the CCL (one per family). Using only the items in the bag, along with your own scissors and adhesive, create a Tails & Tales-themed creature or structure (unicorn, castle, dragon, etc.).

Take a photo of your creation; turn the photo ( not the creation) into the CCL by 5 p.m. Friday, July 9. (Emailing photos to director@colbypubliclibrary.org is preferred.) Photos will be displayed at the CCL and judged by a local artist. Winners will receive a Family Pizza Party Pack.

Each week, visit the CCL’s “Kraft Kingdom” to pick up a free craft bag for at-home crafting fun. Take & Make kits include dragons, gnomes and other fun crafts.

Tales for Teens program

A teen summer reading program is available for ages 13-19. “Tales for Teens” is the theme. Stop in the library for details and to view the 12 treasure packs.

Registration begins June 1 in person at the library. All program materials are due back by Monday, July 19, at 5 p.m.

Beginning June 1, open hours for the summer will be expanded. The CCL will be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, from noon to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library is closed Sundays. Curbside pickup is available during all open hours.

COVID-19 precautions

COVID-19 precautions are still in place. If you are ill, stay at home.

Only 25 people may be in the library at one time. Sanitize hands upon entering. Maintain a social distance of six feet from others.

Limit your visit to 30 minutes. Children under age 12 must be accompanied by a responsible party over 16.

Masks are required for patrons age 5 and up. (Bring your own or the library staff can supply them while quantities last.) Masks must cover the nose and mouth at all times.

If you cannot wear a mask, library staff will help you with curbside service.

Adult computer use is limited to 30 minutes per day; staff are unable to assist with most computer issues to maintain social distance.

Return items in the outdoor book/AV drops only; the quarantine period is 48 hours. Restrooms are cleaned on Sunday and Wednesday evenings; use at your own discretion.

At this time, the library is unable to offer drinking fountains, children’s computers, playroom, and study rooms. WIFI is available 24/7 outside the building, with benches and tables available.

“The Colby Community Library staff is looking forward to supplying great books, movies, magazines and CDs to Colby and surrounding community youth this summer,” said CCL director Vicky Calmes. “As always, library cards are free! Please contact the library if you have question by calling 715- 2232000 or visit us at 505 W. Spence Street for answers. Don’t forget to check out the CCL’s website and Facebook pages for more information.”
