Colby Community Library prepped for April showers Colby Community Library prepped for April showers

April showers may bring the need for indoor activities—reading books and magazines or viewing movies from the Colby Community Library (CCL) could help fill the rainy hours.

Completed items for Maddie Day andMake- a-Difference Day (MADD) must returned to the CCL by Friday, April 9. Capes for Courage, Youth Surgical Caps, Fidget Quilts and Twiddle Muffs will be donated to the Marshfield Medical Center to help youth, Alzheimer’s, and dementia patients.

National Library Week

The first babies born during National Library Week (April 4-10) at Marshfield Medical Center will receive a readingthemed baby tote filled with goodies from the Friends of the CCL.

“Library Users are Happy Campers” is the theme for National Library Month at the CCL. Checking out items at the CCL during April earns patrons a library trivia slip. Fill it out, drop it in the cooler, and those with correct answers will have a chance to win outdoorsy type prizes such as a child’s tent camper, games, birdhouses, puzzles, blankets, pillows, and more!

Games and Fun in ‘21

Featured in the Games and Fun in ‘21 displays are items related to Scrabble and National Parks Get Wild! games. Enjoy titles about books, words and libraries in the Scrabble area or the great outdoors in the National Parks Get Wild! display.

Crafts

Enjoy making rain sticks, foam bugs, or tissue art umbrellas and flowers during the month of April. Thanks to the generosity of area businesses and families, Take & Make craft bags to celebrate the rainy days of April are ready. Limit of one bag per child per visit.

Yearbooks

Visit the Colby Community Library website to view digital copies of all the Colby High School yearbooks owned by the library. A special thanks to the Oklahoma Correctional Institute (OCI) for digitizing the yearbooks free of charge.

Paging through the yearbooks is a great way to reconnect with the past.

The CCL is also looking for yearbooks to fill in its collection. If you own yearbooks from 1926-1942, 1944, 1947, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1987, and 1989, consider donating them to the library.

Forward Bank, Colby location, is collecting clean, saleable books, movies, and puzzles for the Cheese Days Book Sale. Drop items off during Forward’s open lobby hours.

The sale is planned for Thursday, July 15, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, July 16, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, July 17, ($5 Bag Day) from 8 a.m. to noon. The sale is sponsored by the Friends of the CCL.

Plans for a summer reading program (SRP) are in progress. In May, check the CCL website, Facebook page, and local news media for details about the program and summer hours.

Flyers will also be sent home with students at area schools announcing the “Tails and Tales” program designed with fun and COVID-19 safety in mind!
