Spots available for Bear Crossing Outdoors gun deer hunt Oct. 1-9

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds eligible disabled hunters hoping to participate in the 2022 gun deer hunt for hunters with disabilities to contact and confirm their hunting location with a hunt sponsor before Sept. 1, 2022.

Sponsors have enrolled nearly 70,000 acres of land across 40 counties for this year’s hunt taking place Oct. 1-9 and one of those sponsors is located in Taylor County and still seeking potential hunters.

The Bear Crossing Outdoors gun deer hunt is planned for a fourth straight fall on 400 acres of land owned by James and Lori Livingston and additional neighboring properties. As of early August, there were openings for new hunters to take part in the experience. Preference is given to veterans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

This is the only scheduled gun deer hunt for disabled hunters in Taylor, Price or Lincoln counties.

Permanent ground blinds or large pop-up blinds are available for hunters and a support person to use on their hunts. While the majority of activity tends to take place on the first weekend, the land is available for registered hunters to use throughout the nine-day season.

Hunters or assistants are required to contact disabled hunt sponsors directly to sign up for a hunt and provide their name, contact information and DNR customer ID number. To be eligible, hunters must possess a valid Class A, C or D disabled permit or qualifying Class B permit.

Eligible hunters may sign up for one sponsored property per year in Wisconsin and must possess a gun deer license.
