November 5, 2014 – The first public meeting for a “complete urban reconstruction” of Main and South Streets in Loyal was held at Loyal City Hall on Oct. 30. The project, which was set to be completed in the summer of 2017, which would replace old water and sewer lines beneath the street before new pavement, curb, gutter, sidewalks and street lights were added. – Greenwood School District Administrator Jennifer Volger resigned from her position effective Oct, 31, the resignation coming just months after a group of district residents called for her dismissal as “a matter pertaining directly to the quality of our children’s education and their future.” The Greenwood School Board was to meet in two weeks to decide how to move forward in the search for a new superintendent.

November 10, 1999 – Rika Kojima, Nobuyuki Ohgi and Junichi Arai, teachers from Japan, recently completed a month-long stay in Greenwood where they taught special classes at the Greenwood elementary, junior high and high school. The purpose of the month-long mission was to teach the teachers what it is like working in American schools. – The Loyal FFA parliamentary procedure team won gold at the National FFA Convention held in Louisville, Mo. Members of the team were Kristan Noeldner, Bethany Greis, Erin Greis, Rebekah Abel, Jackie Berger, Eric Berger and Brad Berger. The team was coached by Gary Berger. – Winners of the Loyal Jaycees Halloween yard decorating contest were Kelly and Bo Reed, Pam and John Hagen and Cindy Brinker. – The Loyal High School Drama Department was to present its second annual dinner theatre on Nov. 14 at 8 p.m.

November 7, 1979 – A tornado was spotted in Globe south of Greenwood around 3 p.m. on Oct. 31. Minor damage was reported in Greenwood with power lines being cut resulting in a loss of power in some sections of the city. Some large trees had limbs snapped off or were uprooted and roof damage was reported on several buildings and homes, including a portion of the roof of the new Greenwood High School gym which was still under construction.

– Loyal school students were reminded of the district’s deer hunting policy before the gun hunting season began. All student hunters had to submit a form by Nov. 14 with their parent’s signatures and have all homework completed and turned in to teachers by Nov. 16. Any uncompleted work would result in an unexcused absence and the student would receive an ‘F’ grade for each day missed while hunting. – Funds from the Marfa Beyer Memorial Fund were used to purchase materials for a new playground equipment set at the Granton Elementary School. The equipment was made out of white oak by Granton building class members Larry White, Kevin Winter, Greg Olson, Darrin Garbisch, Dave Chase, Rodney Riedel, Dale Drinsinger and Tom Barth. The entire set cost $600 to build.

November 5, 1964 – Approximately 450 children attended the Halloween party sponsored by the Loyal Community Chest Fund on Oct. 31. Prizes were awarded to each grade level for their behavior at the party, including an award given out to the seventh grade class for being the ones who could “yell the loudest.” “Remember When” items are taken from past issues of the Tribune Record Gleaner from 1968 to present, from the Greenwood Gleaner from 1957 to 1964 and from the Loyal Tribune prior to 1968.
