August 27, 2014 – Construction projects were to affect traffic on County Highway V near the south end of the Village of Spencer and on County Highway C east of Spencer in the next few months. Local traffic was to be allowed on both roads, which were being repaved, and work was expected to be complete by mid-October.

– Vern and LaVern Sternitzky of Granton were named the Granton Honored Grandparents by the Granton FFA Alumni. The couple was to be honored during the Granton Fall Festival on Sept. 7.

– A new athletic/school event sign was added on the corner of Loyal’s Main Street and Central Avenue for the School District of Loyal. The sign was donated by Frontier Communications, Loyal Athletic Booster Club and the Loyal FFA Alumni.

– A recent national survey found that the average family would spend nearly $690 on back-to-school shopping. A majority of the costs came from purchasing clothing, followed by electronics and school supplies.

September 1, 1999 -- Cindy Bukovec was crowned Miss Loyal at the Loyal Corn Festival.

– The Loyal Modern Woodmen Junior Service Club had donated $550 to the Clark County Humane Society and traveled to the facility to deliver their donation. Members of the club were Sonia Beyer, Jennah Fulwiler, Scott Beyer, Allison Johnston, Hannah Bauer, Dakota Domine, Logan Fulwiler, Samantha Beyer, Bethany Koski, Haley Bauer, Kristi Englebretson, Tonya Bauer, Sarah Beyer, Amy Breitung, Heather Koski and Katie Johnston.

– Francis and Jeanette Steiner of Granton were named the Honored Grandparents by the Granton FFA Alumni. The couple was to lead the Granton Fall Festival Parade as part of the honor.

August 29, 1979 – The second annual Jaycee Wheelchair Push was to be held at noon on Sept. 2 in Greenwood. Jaycees were to push a wheelchair from Greenwood to Wausau to collect money for the Jerry Lewis Telethon. Chapters to take part in the event were from Greenwood-Willard, Loyal, Granton, Spencer, Stratford, Athens, Edgar and Marathon.

– To cut down on students breaking rules at school, the Loyal School Board had decided that the school detention system was to change for the upcoming school year. Students who were caught disobeying the rules were now required to remain after school for two hours and take the late bus from school to get home. Parents were to be notified they day before detention would be served.

– A four-pack of toilet paper was 79 cents.

August 27, 1964 – Nancy Myre was named Loyal Corn Festival Queen during the Loyal Corn Festival held over the weekend. Rain over the weekend did nothing to stop the crowds from coming out to the event, with an estimated 10,000 people coming to the city over the course of the festival. Approximately 5 tons of sweet corn were consumed by festival attendees.

– The Clark County Cancer Society was to be showing the film “Is Smoking Worth It?” to any organization that was interested.

– A new city ordinance had recently passed in the city of Greenwood to allow taverns in the city to open at 8 a.m. on Sunday mornings.

– A half gallon of ice cream was 49 cents.
