August 20, 2014 - The Clark County Electric Cooperative sponsored five area students to attend the 51st Youth Leadership Congress held July 16-18 at UW-River Falls. These students were Stewart Braun of Abbotsford, Casey Krueger of Colby, Aaron Lindner of Greenwood and Derek Anding and Austin Naedler of Granton.

- Laura Kaiser of Loyal built and donated 10 picnic tables to the city of Loyal to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award. The new tables, five of which were made handicap accessible, were to be used at the Loyal Corn Festival.

- The Golden Ear of Corn was found by Hannah, Haven and Hope Peroshek on Aug. 15 in insulation wrapped around a city hydrant water line near the front of the Loyal High School.

August 25,1999 - The Loyal American Legion Post 175 requested that all churches in the conun unity ring their bells at 9:04 a.m. on Sept. 2 to mark the 54th anniversary of the end of World War II.

- The Curtiss Corners Quilters Club completed their annual collection drive for the Greenwood Food Pantry -The first hole at the Loyal Public Schools golf course was to be rebuilt with a combination of public and private funds. The Loyal School Board approved spending $1,695 on improvements to augment $2,000 donations from the Loyal Lions Club and the Loyal American Legion Post 175. As part of the project, the play direction at the first hole was to be reversed from its north-south orientation to prevent golf balls from striking cars and Marawood Structures.

August 22,1979 - The Spencer Village Board was to begin the process to look for and drill a new well for village water use. One of its current wells, well three, had high concentrations of iron and manganese which needed to be filtered out to continue using the well. A filtering system for the well was expected to cost approximately $ 100,000, and the board felt that it would be better to try to find a new well to draw water from.

- A meeting was to be held Aug. 28 between officials of the Soo Line Railroad, Wisconsin Department of Transportation and officials from the cities of Greenwood and Loyal regarding the future of the Soo Line service to both communities. The meeting was to be held in the Loyal American Legion Hall and the public was invited to attend.

- Candidates for the 1979 Loyal Com Festival Queen contest were Susan Berglund, Lori Cook, Bernice Schmidt and Rita Ward.

- Thirty pounds of strawberries was $17.98.

August 20, 1964 - During the Loyal Corn Festival this year, the horse pulling contest was to be filmed by an advertising firm for possible release on the national scale later in the year. No further details were known at the time.

- A grand reopening was to be held this week at Wepfer Pharmacy in Loyal. The store had undergone an extensive remodeling project to add new display counters and make improvements in its pharmacy center. - The Greenwood School District reported record high enrollment numbers for the 196465 school year. More than 900 students were to be enrolled at the school this year,
