What’s in a color, anyway? What’s in a color, anyway?

– Time For A Tiara: Column by Ginna Young –

Now that football season is back, a few more comments have come in about my favorite shirt, so I’ve decided to address why I wear it. It’s funny, I never thought a simple plain-colored t-shirt could cause so much small town controversy.

The shirt I refer to is an electric purple color and is, in fact, multiple shirts. I love the color so much, I ordered a couple more, so I could wear it frequently.

However, it seems the color is somewhat offensive to some people. They are under the mistaken impression that by donning said shirt, I’m displaying my support for the Minnesota Vikings professional football team.

I can promise you, I would rather sit through a three-hour recital of classical music, while eating Brussels sprouts, than cheer for the Packers’ hated rivals. Besides, the Vikings jerseys are a royal purple and I wasn’t exaggerating, when I said my shirts are electric purple.

Nor is it a proclamation of my loyalty for a local school, Lake Holcombe, specifically, although, it does come in handy when I cover things in the district. There again, it’s not quite the right color for Holcombe, but it works.

I always try to color coordinate for school and sporting functions with not just Lake Holcombe, but also Cadott (black shirt) and Cornell (navy blue shirt). If I have them, might as well show my support for my schools, right?

So, here it is, the reason I wear the purple shirts: it reminds me of Halloween. What, were you expecting something really deep?

The color is exactly like the cover of first the VHS, then the DVD, of Hocus Pocus, my very favorite Halloween movie. If you recall from previous columns, I loooooooove that movie; it makes me really happy.

When I look at my purple shirt, I think of the movie, autumn, Halloween and all that goes with it. Happy, in other words.

That is the sole reason I wear it so much. That and I look dang good in that color!
