– Letter to the Editor –
Today (Nov. 4) starts Veterans Appreciation Week – unofficially. But officially – it’s every day, for those who have served, suffered and sacrificed – those experiencing the sights, sounds and stench of war.
Veterans, from the bottom of our heart, essence of our soul, with every fiber of our existence, we appreciate our American freedom way of life! But for some, memories of departed comrades and of ghastly military experiences, paralyzes well-being.
It is here that the cohesiveness and camaraderie, of veterans organizations and auxiliaries are needed to help cope. Reasons for living a happy, healthy, successful life, go far beyond any individual.
Saying to a veteran, “Thank you for your service,” is nice, but not enough. Perhaps contemplate saying a prayer to almighty God and giving a salute. Consider sharing what you’ve actually done to help veterans and their loved ones.
Giving donations to help improve veteran facilities and supporting veterans programs produce exponential results. Lives of veterans and whole families are empowered.
During this next week and forever, ask a veteran to give you a VIP tour of a veteran post home, Chippewa Valley veterans tribute, Camp Victory, Highground, Wisconsin Veterans Tribute/Citizen Soldier Monument at Cadott, Patriots Park at Carson Park Grande Entrance, Arcadia, Bloomer Stanley.
Veterans, please inspire, so others emulate our euphoria. Thanking majestically those responsible for our past, present and future survival, is glorious. Those are the families, prayer warriors, citizen soldiers and homefront heroes.
Veterans are trained to put their military training and fierce patriotism to use at any time, anywhere. We be steadfast in being super-hyper vigilant. Though some conspiracy theorists predict doom and gloom, we be preparing.
We are ever so thankful for the bountiful blessings so beautifully bestowed upon us.
“Our life, just not ours to live, but for others, with God’s grace to give!”
God bless you, your loved ones and our troops!
Dave Zien, VFW Post 305 Service Officer/Commander Eau Claire
