Make a spring clean sweep of all your hazardous waste
Chippewa County is providing residents with a special clean-up, to dispose of their household hazardous wastes, chemicals, batteries and fluorescents bulbs, in an environmentally safe manner. Improper disposal of these products can cause fires and injuries, to people and animals, as well as groundwater contamination.
The clean-up takes place Saturday, April 26, from 8 a.m. to noon, at the Northern Wisconsin State Fairgrounds in Chippewa Falls.
Free to dispose of, is household hazardous waste, such as oil/solvent-based paint, varnish, stain, stripper, fuel mixture, blacktop sealer, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, waste oil and filters, antifreeze, cleaners, mercury, 1-pound or 20-pound propane cylinders, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and insecticides.
All batteries must have both terminals individually covered with clear packaging tape in order to be accepted. The contractor must be able to read the “type” of battery it is. Untaped batteries will not be accepted, with no bulking or bundles of taped batteries.
The Chippewa County Recycling Program is unable to accept any latex paint, mattresses, box springs, pharmaceuticals, sharps, tires, garbage or furniture at this event, nor will appliances and electronics be accepted. Chippewa County residents can take those items directly to First Choice, six days a week, at 525 Park Ridge Court in Eau Claire.
If a resident has a large amount of hazardous waste, contact the recycling program office for a special arrangement.
