Everything to know about upcoming highway project

The WisDOT is holding a public involvement meeting, to share details about improvements proposed for State Hwy. 27, north of the State Hwy. 29 interchange in Cadott, to Johnson Road on the south side of Cornell, all in Chippewa County. The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 5-6 p.m., at the Cadott High School commons, to learn more about the proposed improvements, ask questions of project staff and share their input.

Existing pavement on 27 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the WisDOT is proposing to repave that roadway, widen the shoulders and add centerline rumble strips, among other things.

The closure of 27 from County Hwy. X to East Mills Street, in Cadott, will be detoured using 29 and State Hwy. 178, during a specific part of the project. During proposed sidewalk improvements, temporary pedestrian facilities will be provided and during other work, there might be very short periods where driveway access is disrupted; the contractor will provide advanced notice of any access restrictions.

Construction is scheduled for 2027.

Hard-of-hearing, deaf, deaf/blind or those with a speech disability needing accommodations, should contact the Wisconsin Telecommunication Relay Service, via 711, at least three days before the meeting. Those who can’t attend the meeting can view materials on the project website, at https://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/projects/byregion/ nw/wis27cadott/default.aspx. Comments on the proposed project are accepted through Nov. 27, by emailing nathan.ulness@dot.wi.gov, or by mail, at: Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Attn. Nathan Ulness, 718 W. Clairemont Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54701.
