Prison ordered for repeat OWI offender

Roy Cantrell, 49, who currently resides in the Waupaca County Jail will spend three years behind bars and another three years in extended supervision for operating while intoxicated as a seventh offense. On July 17, Judge Ann Knox-Bauer accepted a plea agreement which addressed multiple counts against Cantrell. For the OWI (7th) charge,pahe which is a Class F felony, the judge ordered a 6-year bifurcated sentence consisting of 3 years initial confinement and 3 years extended supervision with the following conditions: a fine of $4,201, DNA sample, permanent drivers license revocation, ignition interlock device, $33 blood draw reimbursement, alcohol and other drug assessment and follow through with Driver Safety Plan, and 6 points assessed against Cantrell's driver's license. Total due for this charge is $4,234. Within 30 days of being released from prison, defendant shall contact the Taylor County Clerk of Courts office to set up a payment plan.

In approving the plea agreement, Knox-Bauer dismissed but read in for sentencing charges of operating while revoked (revoked due to alcohol/controlled substance/refusal 4th+) and resisting or obstructing. A charge of operating with restricted controlled substance (7th, 8th, or 9th) was dismissed on prosecutor's motion. Cantrell was also found guilty of disorderly conduct and the court ordered a $100 fine plus court costs, DNA sample and surcharge fee, totaling $579. Clerk is to apply the $500 cash bond in this case to these costs Two coopa3unts of felony bail jumping, and a charge of disorderly conduct - domestic abuse were dismissed but read in for sentencing purposes. Found guilty

Allen Anderson, 31, of Ogema, was found guilty due to a guilty plea of possession of methamphetamine. A charge of possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed but read in for sentencing purposes. Court orders a withheld sentence and places Anderson on probation for a period of 2 years. Conditions of probation are to spend 30 days in the Taylor County Jail with Huber privileges and to begin no later than August 16, 2024. Anderson may transfer to another jail as long as it is at no extra cost to Taylor County and is approved by the Taylor County Sheriff. Anderson is to pay the court costs and provide a DNA sample and pay the surcharge. Anderson is to undergo an AODA and follow through with any recommended treatment and attend counseling as deemed appropriate by the probation agent. In the event of a revocation, He will have one day of sentence credit. All costs totaling $518 are to be paid directly to the Taylor County Clerk of Courts office.

Melissa Birge, 48, of Marshfield, was found guilty due to a no contest plea of reckless driving - endangering safety, amended from operating with a restricted controlled substance (1st). A charge of OWI (1st) was dismissed on prosecutor's motion. She was ordered to pay $974.50.

Shaun Helminski, 45, of Curtiss, was found guilty at a court trial of harassment and was ordered to pay $263.50.

Tara Koszarek, 37, of Wausau, was found guilty due to a guilty plea of theft and was ordered to pay $684.50 in fines and restitution.

Richard Lucas, 41, of Barron, was found guilty due to a guilty plea of disorderly conduct, and was ordered to pay $263.50.

Zudi Vaidi, 49, of Medford, was found guilty at a court trial of operator violated red traffic light, and was ordered to pay $175.30.

Deferred prosecution

A deferred prosecution agreement was approved for Matthew Ulrich, 36, of Medford, for a charge of disorderly conduct.

Pleas entered

Richard Austin, 59, of Medford, pled not guilty to neglecting a child (specified harm did not occur).

Nicholas Faude, 16, of Medford, pled not guilty to charges of a minor transporting intoxicants in a motor vehicle and OWI (1st) with a passenger less than 16 years old.

Robert Hein, 61, of Medford pled not guilty to charges of theft moveable property - special facts; burglary of a

building or dwelling; and possess or illegally obtain a prescription.

Tyler Moretz 24, of Medford, pled not guilty to charges of battery or threat to judge, prosecutor or law enforcement officer and resisting or obstructing an officer.

Sue Peterson, 54, of Rib Lake, pled not guilty to charges of possession of THC; possession of drug paraphernalia; and receiving or concealing stolen property (<=$2,500) as a party to a crime.

Joshua Schultz, 41, of Gilman, pled not guilty to disorderly conduct - domestic abuse.

David Yakes, 58, of Rib Lake, pled not guilty to receiving or concealing stolen property <= $2,500 as a party to a crime.

James Zak, 71, of Withee, pled not guilty to disorderly conduct (domestic abuse).
