Gala funds will support survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault

An Art & Wine Gala is planned for Saturday, October 14, from 6-10 p.m. at Marilyn’s in Medford. Attendees of the event will have the opportunity to experience the exquisite bouquets of 12 wines and the smoothness of five top-shelf whiskeys. In true speakeasy tradition, expect a premium cigar bar, live music, in addition to an assortment of art by local artisans, jewelry, and experience packages that include Badger tickets and boudoir photography to be auctioned or won. All proceeds will support the confidential services Stepping Stones provides to those who survive domestic abuse and sexual assault, community education, and the organization’s building remodel.

Stepping Stones operates under the belief that every child and every adult can and should live without harm or fear caused by violence, abuse, bullying, stalking, and human trafficking. Unfortunately, nearly 120 people in Taylor County last year (20% were children) sought out Stepping Stones for shelter or aid; 89% of those assisted felt they were in immediate or impending danger. The completion and filing of restraining orders, legal assistance, medical assistance, and temporary housing are the most common services provided to survivors.

Tickets to the Gala are limited and can be purchased online through Stepping Stones’ website: sstones.org Major monetary sponsors of the event include Prevail Bank, Borealis Wellness Clinic, Black River Diamond Company, and Stronger Version Fitness. Wine & Whiskey Sponsors ($300) are still being solicited; private citizens and businesses are encouraged to consider.

If you are unable to attend, but want to help make a difference, any monetary denomination would be graciously accepted. The Art & Wine Gala marks the formal kick-off of a capital campaign to pay for and remodel their new facility. The new facility increases accessibility and provides the ability to expand community education efforts, activities, and the free confidential services they provide. The campaign goal is $225,000.
