Support centers named Friend of Public Health
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” ~ Margaret Mead Each year, the Chippewa County Department of Public Health recognizes people or organizations, who have been exceptional public health partners within the community. Those chosen for this recognition exemplify dedication to promoting health and preventing disease.
This year, the recipients of the 2023 Friend of Public Health Award are the River Source Family Center and the Family Support Center.
“River Source Family Center and Family Support Center has been constant in our community for many years,” said Kristen Kelm, community health division manager. “They all are great partners and support our community in so many ways.”
River Source Family Center supports, educates and celebrates families throughout Chippewa County, since 1997. Their mission is to embrace and strengthen families with young children, by promoting growth through education, information, referral and opportunities to share experiences.
The Family Support Center empowers all individuals, families and communities to live free from domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and interpersonal violence, through education, prevention and intervention.
“Our organizations have long worked together to support families in our community, through a collaborative relationship,” said Angela Weideman, county health director. “We better each other, by sharing education and resources on various topics. Furthermore, they go above and beyond, to ensure that all feel welcome and safe. We are so grateful to have these incredible organizations in our community.”
