Newberry hired as director of Taylor House Newberry hired as director of Taylor House

Taylor County Supportive Housing has announced that Amanda Newberry has been hired as the director of the Taylor House, the transitional housing shelter that will be located at 232 S. Fourth St. in Medford.

While she is new to the position, so is the organization, and Newberry brings with her experience working with a nonprofit organization and has a passion for the organization and its mission to provide shelter, food, support and solutions to address the housing needs in the community.

When Newberry became aware of Taylor County Supportive Housing and what their goal was, she immediately reached out and wanted to help. Newberry and her daughter set up a “pillows for cupcakes” station at the end of their driveway for her daughter’s birthday last year. The idea was simple, stop by and drop off a pillow for the shelter and you will be rewarded with a cupcake. The group received all the pillows it needed for the shelter.

Newberry has an Associate’s Degree in social work and pursued this area to study as she has a passion for helping others. She has enjoyed working with other non-profits and feels this is her calling.

When Newberry heard of the job opening, she was nervous to apply. Many family members and friends encouraged her to apply, saying that her compassion and personality would help her to succeed in the position.

Newberry was born and raised in upper Michigan. After having her daughter Ali she relocated to the Medford area. Newberry and her husband Jake welcomed their son, Eli in 2018 and later that year purchased their first home. Newberry loves the area and the number of activities available here for families. She was impressed with the Medford School District and what they have to offer and knew this was where she wanted to raise her kids.

The public may have seen Newberry helping in the community. In 2020 she volunteered at the Backpack giveaway held at River of Hope Church. This summer she volunteered at the Taylor County Supportive Housing brat fry. “I love how Amanda was willing to jump in and help!” said Taylor County Supportive Housing Board president Jessica Mudgett.

“I am extremely grateful to be accepted into such an amazing role in our community. I know this project has been in the works for a long time in Taylor County. We have so much more work to do before we can open our doors, and I am blessed to be a part of it. I look forward to working with those in need here in our area” Newberry said.

Newberry already has another cupcake drive set up for her daughter’s birthday again this year. They will be set up at the farmer’s market on September 11 with cupcakes and will be accepting donations for the Taylor House.
