Christopher Piotrowski tapped to take over as general manager of the Medford Co-op from Chip Courtney

The Medford Cooperative’s Board of Directors has been involved in an extensive search process which involved over 60 applicants to replace the retiring Chip Courtney. The Board of Directors has agreed to hire Christopher Piotrowski as the General Manager. Mr. Piotrowski brings experience with notable entities including Associated Bank, SC Johnson, Miller-Coors and ConAgra foods.

Board President Brad Dahlvig noted that the management of the cooperative has not changed in over 30 years. According to Dahlvig: “Under the leadership of Chip Courtney the Medford Cooperative has experienced consistent responsible growth resulting in a strong financial position today. We are now poised to continue growth and diversification as we move forward in our second century of providing essential products and services.”

Regarding the hiring of Mr. Piotrowski Dahlvig commented: “The board was impressed with the core innovation skills which Christopher offers in revenue growth, profit growth, strategic planning, staff leadership and strategic partnerships. Christopher has exhibited an ability to build strong and effective business relationships, while utilizing talent development to deliver ROI. Christopher is excited to meet the staff and patrons as he embarks on developing meaningful long term mutually beneficial relationships both in and outside the workplace. Looking ahead the Board is committed to achieve the growth and diversification necessary to ensure that our locally controlled cooperative remains a relevant part of our patrons’ lives.”

Chip Courtney announced he would be retiring in August 2021 after serving as General Manager for 32 years. Under his leadership the Medford Cooperative has grown from sales of about $12 million to about $75 million. The cooperative’s sales territory now encompasses 10 counties in Northern Wisconsin offering goods and services in retail, agriculture and energy provided by a staff of over 200 employees. Dahlvig also commented that: “Words cannot express just how grateful Medford Cooperative is to Chip Courtney for all the years of unwavering and dedicated leadership he has brought to the co-op and the community for which he has represented us so well.”
