Granny’s Life Granny’s Life

“Never take anything for granted, learn to appreciate what you have before it’s no longer yours to appreciate.” - Unknown My granny was a strong, smart, and classy lady who was ahead of her time in many ways. My great-grandma Shirley was born in 1924 and always made everyone in our family call her Granny. Otherwise, she would get mad and correct us. She taught me to never take anything for granted and always live life to the fullest. When my granny was 16, her father told her that she had to quit high school. Her father did not believe girls needed an education and that she was needed on the family farm. Granny had different ideas. She wanted very much to earn her high school diploma and was able to convince her father to let her continue her education and earn her high school diploma. After high school, she moved to Milwaukee by herself and found a job. Later, she moved back to Medford, and she married the love of her life. Together they built a successful company and lived a rich, happy life. During this time, my granny became the first woman postal carrier in Taylor County. At a time when the typical woman stayed home and worked, my granny worked both inside and outside of the home.

I learned that if I want to be successful in life, I have to try everything and never take anything for granted. My granny did this in so many ways. She tried and worked very hard for what she wanted and didn’t let anyone or anything get in her way. So in return she got everything she dreamed of. She was a very successful woman that I really look up to and hope I can do and try things like she did. I think it is very important to work for what you want because if you don’t you’re never going to get anywhere in life or fulfill your dreams.

From my granny I now want to live differently in trying my hardest in everything I try and do. The only reason my granny became successful was because she worked hard and never gave up no matter what. She inspires me so much to never take anything for granted and try everything and never give up. I hope I can live my life to the fullest like my granny.
