The Cornell Area Care Center hosts its first pizza party fundraiser, which is deemed a success, as the event collects hundreds of dollars. The money goes to the facility’s Alzheimer Association Memory Walk group, the Cornell Cruisers.
20 Years Ago –1999
With victories over Augusta and Altoona, the Cadott Hornets Volleyball team becomes the West Cloverbelt Conference champions, with an 11-2 season record and a perfect 6-0 conference record. The squad will now host Loyal, to see who will reign as the combined conferences’ champion.
30 Years Ago – 1989 Cornell MD Dr. David Cook puts on a one-man play at the Chippewa Valley Museum in Carson Park. Cook lends humor and flashbacks to portray a 75-yearold Twain.
40 Years Ago – 1979
A storyteller is available to all ages, day and night, seven days a week, through the Cadott Public Library, by calling 289-3110. In the first month of the pre-recorded story line, there have been 3,322 callers.
50 Years Ago – 1969
Cornell native Master Sgt. Frank J. McCann is awarded his second air Force Commendation medal. McCann is assigned to the Alaskan command of the joint secretariat Elmendorf AFB, guarding the solar approaches.
60 Years Ago – 1959
There are 14 high school girls vying for the title of queen, in a contest by the Cadott Lions Club for their annual Fall Festival Dance. The girl who sells the most tickets to the dance, will be crowned queen and receive a $25 savings bond, with proceeds from the dance going toward community betterment projects.
100 Years Ago – 1919
The prosperous Central Hotel in Cornell, is sold, after four years of management under J. H. Greer. The business is sold to Fred Couture, of the Ruby country, who helped run his father’s farm.
