Car goes into creek near Neillsville


At 12:10 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, the Clark County Sheriff's Office received a call of a car in Cunningham Creek about 1 mile south of Neillsville off of State Highway 73.
Emergency vehicles closed the roadway at 1:45 p.m. so a tow truck could remove the vehicle.
As of 2:27 p.m., the roadway was clear and open for travel.
According to the accident report, at about 3 a.m. Sunday, the driver of a white Mercury Grand Marquis was headed north on State Highway 73 just before the Cunningham Creek bridge when he fell asleep, he said. The car crossed the center line into the southbound lane and entered the west side ditch. It continued northbound through the west side ditch for about 100 yards before striking a bridge embankment and entering the creek. It came to rest halfway in the creek on the south side of the creek.
The driver stated that after the crash, he got out of the vehicle and got a ride home. He did not report the crash and was uninjured.
The driver was cited for failure of operator to notify police of accident, operating left of center, reckless driving — endanger safety, driving too fast for conditions, and inattentive driving.
Police responded to a call of car in Cunningham Creek just south of Neillsvilie on Sunday afternoon. No one was injured in the crash and the vehicle was removed.
