Loyal’s Bear Creek bridge due to be replaced in 2027
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has proposed an improvement project that involves replacing the bridge that carries State Highway 98 over Bear Creek in the Clark County city of Loyal.
Built in 1920, the bridge is nearing the end of its surface life. WisDOT is proposing to: -- Remove the existing bridge. -- Construct a new single-span concrete girder bridge with sidewalks from WIS 98/County K to the east end of the bridge.
-- Reconstruct approach pavement on both sides of the structure to accommodate drainage and provide a smooth ride onto the new bridge.
– Remove the existing guardrail. Construction currently is scheduled for 2027. During construction, Highway 98 will be closed, and through traffic will be detoured via State Highway 73, County H, and County Y.
The WisDOT is seeking public comment on this project. The public is encouraged to visit the project website, review a handout, maps and other information. Comments are being accepted through Feb. 24 by emailing jsaxby@sehinc.com or writing to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, 718 W. Clairemont Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54701, Attn.: Christena O’Brien.
